Lapland's first diamond comes from Tankavaara

In September 1868 the first gold was discovered in Lapland. Exactly 150 years later, in August 2018, two german goldsmiths panned for golld in Tankavaaran and found the first diamond of Lapland.

Geologist Kasper von Wuthenau discovered the tiny stone when checking their heavy mineral concentrates for rare minerals.  

It is quite sure a split from a bigger diamond. So, it's possible to find more and bigger diamonds from Tankavaara. Precious rubies, sapphires and garnets were always found aside the gold, Now the Oldtimers as well as our guests have chance to find the most precious of all Stones!
